WHAT IS THE WALKOLUTION WORK AND WALK SYSTEM?

The WORK AND WALK series from Walkolution consists of a collection of walking treadmills and height adjustable desks, that can be combined. The main difference to conventional gym or fitness treadmills, is that the Walkolution systems are entirely human-powered, non-motorised and ergonomically optimised, in such a way that they can be used in a professional office setting. Optionally, Walkolution systems are also available with an integrated backrest and a seat, that allow one to use the system with a high degree of flexibility. The overall concept is a system that can be used intuitively, in order to incorporate movement into your daily workplace routines.

 

IF I ALREADY HAVE A STAND UP DESK, WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

We have many customers who had already bought height adjustable desks before upgrading to a Walkolution setup. The WORK AND WALK model, PURE, can be bought alone, and used as a supplement to an existing stand-up desk. PURE can also easily be combined with the optional backrest or seat option.

WHY DO YOU OFFER A SEAT OPTION?

The aim is to sit for less than to 2 to 4 hours a day, and the idea is to vary your position regularly, intuitively shifting between different postures, with walking being the predominant form. Both mind and body need frequent changes for an optimal work experience. Every other solution becomes monotonous after a while. Using the seat only for brief intervals, the user will still log around 15.000 to 20.000 steps per day.

WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE TREADMILL DESK?
  • Our walking treadmill is 64.2 cm wide, 140 cm long and 32 cm high at the front and 25 cm in the middle.
  • The height adjustable desk, Performance, is 120 to 180 cm wide, 80 cm deep and up to 155 cm high. Other dimensions can be adjusted upon request, and made to measure.
  • The integrated desk, Dynamic, comes at a depth of 55 cm and a width of 64 cm.
I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE. WHAT CAN I DO?

A WORK AND WALK workplace doesn’t actually require more room than a conventional desk with a chair. It is a fallacy, which is probably due to the perceived size of a height-adjustable desk.

IF I DO NOT HAVE A STAND UP DESK, WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

You can either purchase an optional height-adjustable desk or a treadmill with a desk attached to it.

HOW EASY IS IT TO MOVE THE WALKOLUTION TREADMILL?

The walking treadmill has wheels on the front, that carry most of the weight of the treadmill when you lift it by the rear handles. You can easily set it up anywhere you want to.

HOW IS THE WALKOLUTION TREADMILL DRIVEN?

Unlike most other treadmill desk systems, WALKOLUTION’s unique self-powered design works without any external power. It is as silent as a whisper, so it won’t distract you or colleagues around you.

 

IS THERE ANY NOISE FROM THE TREADMILL?

Different than in most other treadmill desk systems, WALKOLUTION’s unique self powered design works without any power from outside. It is whisper silent and thus neither distracts you nor your colleagues around you.

ARE THERE ANY UNEXPECTED SIDE EFFECTS?

Not at all! Working on a treadmill desk does not have any negative impact on your work. Because walking is instinctive for human beings, you will find that walking while you work will soon become second nature.

Your walking speed is so slow that it will not influence your ability to type, control a mouse or read. Many users also love to make phone calls or have a video conference or meeting while using a treadmill desk.

DOES WORKING AT A TREADMILL DESK REALLY WORK?

The change from a normal office chair and desk to a WALKOLUTION treadmill desk is a joyful experience. Most users need around 10 minutes to get used to working while walking. You will feel vital and active, while achieving new levels of working efficiency, and getting yourself into a creative mood.

 

WHO CAN USE THE TREADMILL DESK? ARE THERE WEIGHT OR AGE LIMITATIONS?

Our products can be used by everybody who desires to promote one’s health while working. There are no limits with regard to body size or age. In general, it is designed for users with a weight of up to 180 kg.

WHAT TYPES OF TASKS CAN I PERFORM WHILE I AM WALKING?

Contrary to popular believe, working while walking doesn’t require to multitask. Consider walking as something like breathing. First time users are often surprised that tasks like operating a computer or reading text can be performed without any difficulties. Even fine motor tasks like video editing or CAD drawing can be performed without problems. Walking at a slow pace also promotes creative thinking and actually boosts concentration. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO USE A TREADMILL DESK OR A WALKING DESK?

Just give yourself some time to get used to the feeling of the natural movement on the treadmill. This usually doesn’t take longer than 10 minutes. No need to rush – take the time to find your own personal rhythm. Take long, slow steps and keep your body in an upright position. You will find that it is easier to walk at the front of the treadmill than at the back, due to the minimal decline of the treadmill belt.   

DO I NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT TO USE THE TREADMILL DESK?
No, it can be used without any extra equipment.
WHICH TYPE OF SHOES SHOULD I WEAR ON THE TREADMILL?

The WALKOLUTION system has a built-in cushion for optimal walking support and can be used it with every shoe type or even without shoes. 

DO I HAVE TO WALK AGAINST THE RESISTANCE OF THE TREADMILL?

The resistance of the treadmill belt can be regulated intuitively by your position on the treadmill. Walking while working is not meant to be exhausting but to give you the opportunity to incorporate gentle and natural movement throughout the entire day.

DOES THE WALKOLUTION TREADMILL STOPS AUTOMATICALLY?
Yes, the WALKOLUTION treadmill stops immediately every time you stop walking or step of. In this way the user has maximum security.
CAN I RUN AT THE TREADMILL DESK?

While it would be technically possible to run, we believe that the optimal walking speed is rather slow. Somewhere around 1 km/h.

WILL I GET SWEATY?

No, you should not get sweaty while walking. You will be walking quite slowly with an average speed of 1-2 km/h. The purpose of a treadmill desk is not to provide an intense cardio workout but to keep your body active on a base level throughout the day.

IS THERE A POSSIBILITY TO REST OR SIT BETWEEN WALKING SESSIONS?

Yes, in the Dynamic Plus and the Performance Plus versions there is an integrated back rest. In the Performance Ultimate there are is also an integrated seat. 

HOW LONG CAN I USE THE SYSTEM PER DAY?

Becuase it is recommended to keep sitting hours below 2 to 4 hours per day, you can use the treadmill desk all day long.

WHICH MATERIALS ARE USED ?

The frame of the desk, all interior moving parts and the chassis of the treadmill are made of industry-grade steel, which provides maximum stability. The side panels, the slats and the desk are made of FSC-certified, locally sourced beechwood.

CAN I TRACK THE NUMBER OF STEPS?

Absolutely! To provide our users with the most accurate data and the most convenient setups, we started an exclusive partnership with GARMIN. You can track your data via an optionally available, integrated GARMIN display, which is set in the desktop, and via a wearable GARMIN device. We also offer customised solutions for integrating advanced tracking options within corporate health programmes of all sizes.

WHAT KIND OF MAINTENANCE DO I HAVE TO PERFORM MYSELF?

Usually, no maintenance is necessary. If you used the treadmill with dusty shoes or if it is exposed to a dusty environment, simply wipe it off afterwards.

WHAT OPTIONS DO I HAVE TO COMBINE WALKOLUTION TREADMILLS PRODUCTS?

You can combine both desks types, Dynamic and Performance, with the treadmill. Prefabricated slots in the treadmill frame also give you the freedom to simply add the backrest or the seat module later. With the Dynamic desk, the flexible design works in the same way. You can also combine an existing height-adjustable desk with our PURE treadmill.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A TREADMILL DESK?

DO I NEED TO WALK ALL DAY?

You do not have to walk all day. Ideally, you should keep a healthy balance and switch your position every once in a while. You will see that your body will respond to walking very positively, and you will love starting and finishing every day, active and energised, achieving more in the process.
