Founder and Senior Medical Doctor, Eric Soehngen, built the world's first treadmill desk prototype while a medical student in 2005. Eric found that he was averse to the long hours of sitting in the library after years of studying and began to research the effects of sitting for most of the day on the body. He found there was already global research done and confirmed his suspicions that prolonged sitting, over time, had devastating health impacts, similar those of smoking. The frustration of having no alternative drove him to create his own; thus the Walkolution treadmill desk was born. In 2016, Eric left his position as a senior medical doctor specializing in internal and emergency medicine at a large university hospital, and in 2017, he founded Walkolution.
